Tartar is mineral deposit that forms on the teeth and increases if left untreated. It is not just aesthetic issue because it can also lead to serious dental issues such as periodontitis. One of the best ways to remove tartar buildup is by visiting your dentist regularly, however there are some ways you can do this at your own home with the help of common household ingredients.

Ingredients:


  • Baking soda
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Cup
  • Antiseptic mouthwash
  • Toothbrush
  • Dental pick


Baking soda is a very efficient and quite popular plaque removing ingredient.



  • Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of salt. Wet your toothbrush and dip it into the mixture then scrub your teeth. Spit out and repeat the process for 5 minutes.
  • Mix 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide and ½ cup of warm water. Use the mixture to rinse your mouth, spit it out and rinse again with ½ cup of warm water.
  • Using the dental pick scrub the yellow buildup on your teeth. Be careful not to scrape the gums because they can become irritated and damaged.
  • Rinse your mouth every other day with and antiseptic mouth wash.

Strawberries and tomatoes

Strawberries and tomatoes are rich in vitamin C which is why they are excellent for the oral health. Rub them directly on the teeth and leave on for 5 minutes. The tartar buildup will soften and then rinse your mouth with a mixture of baking soda and warm water.

Other fruits and vegetables that can be used other than tomatoes and strawberries are berries, peppers, papaya, lime and oranges.

Cheese

Consuming Swiss or Cheddar cheese before meals will help neutralize the acids that cause formation of plaque. Aged cheese contains and ingredient that protects the teeth from the plaque.

Other tips for preventing plaque:


  • Brush your teeth regularly with a soft brush using vertical motions. Pay more attention to the spaces between the teeth and gums.
  • Regularly floss
  • You can fight bacteria by rubbing orange peel on the teeth before going to bed. Don’t rinse your mouth afterwards.
  • Saliva cleanses the mouth naturally and consuming spicy foods will increase the salivary gland function.
